Projects of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Thuringia, represented by the State Chancellery of Thuringia, Department of Culture and the Arts.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention in 2012, the UNESCO network of “World Heritage Volunteers” invited young people to participate in volunteer projects around the world. Based on the motto “Beyond Territories and Boundaries”, forty World Heritage sites in 25 countries, including Weimar with its “Classical Weimar” World Heritage ensemble, called on young people to volunteer their time to protect our cultural and natural heritage.
Every year since 2013 young people from around the world have come to Weimar as participants of the programme “World Heritage Volunteers”. In the project “Parks and Gardens of Classical Weimar”, they work together with professional gardeners of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar to tend the historical parks which belong to the World Heritage Site “Classical Weimar”. In addition to their practical work at the Belvedere Castle Park, the volunteers participate in tours and excursions to learn about the methods of garden and park conservation, the background of artistic horticulture and classical techniques of gardening and landscaping. The volunteer programme is coordinated by the Open Houses e.V. association.
