In preparation for the exhibition »War of Ideologies«, students of the Humboldtgymnasium Weimar are developing a media guide together with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar which identifies and presents the events and ambivalences of modernity in Weimar beyond the scope of the exhibition. Touching on subjects addressed in the exhibition, the students will explore specific questions and issues related to various locations in Weimar. In a second step, they will produce texts and audio files from information they have gathered along with suitable historic photo material which they will select themselves.
In order to present the complex themes and content in an understandable way, the students will apply the ›augmented reality‹ tool in their project. This involves using historic photography and films, e.g. illustrating forms of military mobilisation, to establish a direct connection between the locations of the past and their appearance today. This enables visitors to visually ›augment‹ the information they gain from the written texts and audio files.
The Zeitfenster-GbR, whose app received the Cultural and Creative Industry Award by the German federal government, has agreed to oversee the technical implementation of the student-made products following the project.
The media guide will be available for public use as a mobile application and will serve as a central component of the exhibition’s accompanying programme. It offers the participating students an opportunity to develop a publicly effective application, in which their research findings are not only presented, but can be used beyond the scope of the exhibition.
The organisers expect to have the media guide ready for download as a free app for iOS and Android starting 2. September 2014.
The student project is coordinated in cooperation with the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Federal Agency for Civic Education.
