The Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek is a publicly accessible archive and research library of literary and cultural history with a particular focus on the era between 1750 and 1850. In keeping with the tradition of a ducal library, its holdings contain collections dating back to the 9th century which are continuously expanded, catalogued and made accessible with current research literature.

„In libraries one feels to be in the presence of enormous capital which silently yields inestimable amounts of interest.“

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The Rococo Hall in the Historic Library is one of the many exquisite rooms in the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek.

We catalogue and digitalise our collections, produce bibliographies, and search our holdings for illegally confiscated cultural assets.
