Complete renovation of the former Schönfärbe and Kammerfrauenhaus

The Wittumspalais is comprised of the Palais (mansion), the Schönfärbe (dye house) and the Kammerfrauenhaus (court ladies’ house). The Baroque-period building ensemble with an enclosed inner courtyard was created when the mansion was adjoined to the significantly older Schönfärbe and Kammerfrauenhaus from 1767 to 1769. The renovation measures will be carried out on the buildings on the eastern side of the courtyard, both of which are not used for museum activities.

The project aims to achieve two goals. First, it shall preserve the historical integrity of the buildings’ structure through careful renovation. Second, it will improve the services of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar in the area of cultural education by creating a central contact point and meeting place which offers a variety of services and educational activities for groups in the centre of downtown Weimar.

The project is slated to run from September 2016 to March 2018 and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Thuringia, represented by the Thuringian State Chancellery, Department of Culture and Art.
