All research activities carried out by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar are based on the cultural heritage which is preserved and scientifically classified in its museums and historic buildings, the Duchess Anna Amalia Library and the Goethe and Schiller Archives. The results of our strictly material-based research are presented in exhibitions and documented in editions, bibliographies and catalogues of scientific works. Our research efforts include interdisciplinary research projects which re-examine and evaluate the foundation’s collections in light of the latest developments in the humanities.
To ensure that our research work consistently adheres to current scientific standards, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar makes every effort to maintain an extensive network in the field of international research. We cooperate with universities and extramural research institutes in Germany and abroad on numerous projects, and regularly invite internationally renowned scholars to symposiums in Weimar. Thanks to our permanent facilities, such as the Research Centre for European Classicism founded in 2009 and dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of periods of classicism in European cultural history, and the Kolleg Friedrich Nietzsche, which serves as a platform for intellectual discussion on philosophical questions of today, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar has gained a reputation as a high-profile forum for international research.
The Klassik Stiftung Weimar offers research scholarships to promising, young academics to finance their research in Weimar for several months at a time.
All research activities under the aegis of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar comply with its guidelines for good scientific practice.
