Klassik Kolleg

The Klassik Kolleg focuses on students of German studies from German and foreign universities who want to investigate the cultural heritage of Weimar Classicism and to hold interdisciplinary discussions in Weimar.

Three tertiary institutes of German studies come together for the Klassik Kolleg; two of these should be affiliated with foreign universities. During the first college phase in the winter semester, lecturers from the cooperating institutes offer parallel classes on texts and contexts in Weimar Classicism, structured to tackle the same topics. During the following summer semester, participants travel to Weimar for a research colloquium lasting several days. Here they work together to deepen their knowledge at authentic locations, also incorporating the collections in Weimar. In this context, the participants present their approaches to Weimar Classicism, all influenced by their respective national cultures, as part of an international exchange.

The Klassik Kolleg is in principle open to all tertiary institutes of German studies, which then join together in international groups of three. The initiative should come from a German university, which coordinates pre-application discussions and submits the application as the institution in charge.
