Die Kunstfreunde e.V.
Founded in 1995, the association of supporters of the Weimar art collections works to safeguard and preserve selected art treasures in Weimar and facilitate the acquisition of new cultural assets. The development of art and design is centrally important to its mission, specifically the Bauhaus, modernism and the works displayed in the Weimar City Castle. Since it was established, the supporters of Bauhaus.Weimar.Moderne have purchased and helped acquire works of art valued at more than 2.2 million euros. These were donated or permanently loaned to the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
The association adopted the name “Bauhaus.Weimar.Moderne. Die Kunstfreunde e.V.” in 2011.
In addition to promoting the acquisitions and measures at the Castle Museum and the Neues Museum Weimar, the association sees one of its central tasks as that of supporting the new Bauhaus Museum in Weimar. For years the members of the association have strongly advocated for constructing this significant new museum for the city and state.
Its activities include previewing the most important exhibitions of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, providing tours, holding public lectures, funding academic publications and organising annual art trips (to Leipzig and Chemnitz in 2016 and to Gotha, Potsdam and Leipzig in 2017).
There are currently 120 members in the association “Bauhaus.Weimar.Moderne. Die Kunstfreunde e.V.” and interested art enthusiasts from near and far are always welcome to join!
