Projects of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Thuringia, represented by the State Chancellery of Thuringia, Department of Culture and the Arts.
The Goethe Society was founded in Weimar in 1885 with the goal of promoting deeper understanding of Goethe, his surroundings and his significance for contemporary culture. The Klassik Stiftung Weimar has worked closely with the association for many years.
The Goethe Society in Weimar and the Klassik Stiftung Weimar signed an agreement of cooperation in 2008 to “jointly promote the memory of Goethe and his surroundings”.
According to the agreement, the Goethe Society officially handed over its library, autograph collection and various items related to the life of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to the Klassik Stiftung Weimar as a permanent loan. In return, the foundation agreed to preserve, restore and archive the items and documents appropriately. Furthermore, it pledged to support the Goethe Society in carrying out future projects and events.
