Directorate of Administration

The Directorate of Administration provides administrative services to the other directorates and departments of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar in the areas of human resources, finance, IT and organisation. It ensures compliance with regulatory frameworks, promotes the modernisation of administrative operations and enables the Foundation to carry out projects and meet long-term statutory obligations in accordance with its financial circumstances.

2019 budget

The Foundation’s operational budget constitutes about 12.1 million euros of institutional funding from the German federal government, another 12.1 million from the Free State of Thuringia and two million euros from the city of Weimar. This amount is augmented by a projected 4.1 million euros of self-acquired revenues (admission fees, sale of publications etc.). The project budget is financed by German federal and state agencies with a total of 28.9 million euros, which the Foundation has earmarked for building measures and investment projects. This amount includes 17.4 million euros in federal and state funding to carry out the special investment programme for the Weimar City Castle, the Bauhaus Museum and the restoration of prints and manuscripts, the reacquisition of library assets lost in the fire, as well as 3 million from the federal government and 3.3 million from the state for construction projects and other investment measures.

In addition to the budgetary resources allocated in 2018, the German federal government and the Free State of Thuringia provided 3.7 million euros to repair damages to the Graphic Arts Collections and build a flood-safe storage facility. With funding provided through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), another 1.5 million euros were allocated in 2019 to finance the initial presentation in the new Bauhaus Museum, the exhibition in the Neues Museum Weimar, and for digitalisation measures. The state also approved an additional 1.1 million euros of ERDF funding to create a cultural history portal at the Weimar City Castle.

2018 budget – final balance

The Klassik Stiftung Weimar receives institutional funding in equal part by the German federal government and the Free State of Thuringia, as well as an additional sum contributed by the city of Weimar. These amounts can vary from year to year on account of budgetary implementation.

In 2018 the Klassik Stiftung Weimar was allocated 26.9 million euros in institutional budgetary funding, consisting of 13.3 million from the federal government, 11.6 million from the Free State of Thuringia and about two million from the city of Weimar. The Foundation was able to augment its operational budget with self-acquired revenues totalling 3.5 million euros (e.g. from admission fees, sales, leases etc.). The Klassik Stiftung Weimar also obtained 20.7 million euros in project-related funding and donations. This amount included some 15.5 million euros in federal- and state-appropriated project-related funding which was used for construction projects, repairing fire-related damages to the holdings of the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek (HAAB) and other investment measures and research projects.
