The Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv (GSA) is an internationally renowned archive and research institute, entrusted with preserving our common cultural memory, particularly of the 18th and 19th century.

Department of Media Processing and Usage

The Department of Media Processing and Usage is responsible for preserving, studying, expanding and presenting the archive’s handwritten holdings and collections. It also provides services to the users of the archive.

Department of Editions

Since the 143-volume “Sophie Edition”, or Weimar Edition, of Goethe’s works was completed in 1919, the archive has cultivated a reputation as a centre of source-based Goethe research and edition philology.
