Resounding Castle and Radiant Bauhaus

In preparation of the commemorative year 2020 when the whole world will celebrate Beethoven’s 250th anniversary, the newly opened Bauhaus Museum Weimar and Belvedere Castle present a programme in honour of the composer – a late string quartet in dialogue with Karlheinz Stockhausen’s radical thoughts and Beethoven’s seldom performed folk song arrangements for vocals and piano trio. On a tour through the old and new rooms, audience members will be treated to a fascinating encounter between the trumpet, the Persian santur and verses from Goethe’s West-Eastern Diwan. An evening performance of intuitive music will set the illuminated Bauhaus Museum in oscillation. The programme will conclude with duets and chamber music by Robert Schumann. Like in the opening concert, a centrepiece of the performance will be a rare historical pianoforte of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.

„Someone who sublimated so many sensory values as Beethoven did – from the crudest to the most ethereal - must have had a range of 20 octaves in him.“
