The permanent exhibition in the historic library building provides visitors and professionals with insights into the management of the consequences of fire since 2004. The exhibition with over 60 books, fragments, models and videos demonstrates the technical possibilities of preserving books from the 15th to the 20th century.

From summer 2016, the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek will be showing the exhibition »Restoration after the Fire« in the historic library building. After the great popularity of visitors and experts, it provides insights into the handling of the consequences of fire since 2004. The exhibition with over 60 books, fragments, models and videos demonstrates the technical possibilities of preserving books from the 15th to the 20th century. It shows the status and progress of the restoration work and explains the connections between the restoration decisions and the project organization of the research library, the restoration scientific environment and the economic conditions. In terms of restoration, the focus is on the concept of quantity handling in bookbinding and paper restoration practiced in Weimar. The exhibition and catalog were created in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim.
