The garden monument “Belvedere Castle Park” was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1998. Beginning in the mid-18th century, the originally Baroque garden was gradually converted into a landscaped park with Romantic features. The two Possenbach bridges are situated at the south end of the park grounds.
Both bridges are similarly designed with natural stone abutments, steel girders, wooden planking and railings made of natural, unrefined logs. Although no historical drawings or designs of the bridges exist, numerous historical descriptions give reason to believe that they were similarly constructed in the 18th century. Thanks to their natural appearance, the bridges fit harmoniously into the landscaped park to this day.
The wooden planking and railings will be completely refurbished with new materials. The abutments will be strengthened, and the steel girders will be technically upgraded to ensure the safety of pedestrian traffic in the long term.
