As the international organisation for museums and museum workers, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) is dedicated to preserving, maintaining and providing information about the world’s natural and cultural heritage.
With more than 28,000 members in 137 countries, ICOM is the international network of museums and museum personnel linking all special areas. ICOM numbers 115 national committees, 31 international committees and numerous regional and affiliated organisations among its members. The mission of the International Council of Museums is to protect the cultural assets kept in the museums and to place them at the service of society at large in cooperation with UNESCO.
The German Museums Association (founded in 1917) is the national interest group for all museums and the people who work in them. It represents the interests of art museums, museums specialising in history, cultural history, technical history and natural science as well as other types of museum. It is also a contact point for people committed to the diversity of the German museum scene.
The Conference of National Cultural Institutions (KNK) is a joint venture currently comprising 23 cultural institutions of national significance, all located in the former GDR. It was founded on March 1, 2002 as one of the Francke Foundations in Halle, and goes back to the so-called "Blue Book". The mission of the Conference of National Cultural Institutions (KNK) is to continue promoting and safeguarding the preservation and cataloguing of the cultural heritage kept by the East German cultural institutions listed in the Blue Book as "nationally significant". It aims to anchor the museums, collections, archives and gardens firmly in the awareness of politicians and the public. The KNK serves the institutions involved as a platform for communicating community interests and objectives. It has now developed into a competent network which successfully presents the achievements and tasks of the most important art collections and museums in the former GDR throughout Germany and Europe.
The Association of German Foundations represents the interests of the foundations in Germany to the public and in politics and administration. The association organises campaigns to make sure that the foundations will also be able to discern and realise its tasks and concerns effectively in the future. This encompasses its efforts to further improve general conditions, particularly in foundation and foundation tax law, and to create a climate which is more positive for foundations. By maintaining constant contact with public decision-makers and media and by making statements and applications, the Association of German Foundations contributes practical expertise to political decision-making processes and public reporting.
JenaVersum is an association dedicated to promoting exchange between representatives in academia, business and municipal government and raising their many years of collaboration to a whole new level.
JenaVersum serves as a networking platform for dialogue between the Friedrich Schiller University, the University of Applied Sciences Jena, the Jena University Hospital, non-university-affiliated social and humanities-based research institutes and foundations in Jena, Weimar and Hermsdorf, as well as partner companies and research-based organisations in Jena and the surrounding region.
