Projects of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Thuringia, represented by the State Chancellery of Thuringia, Department of Culture and the Arts.

The Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv (GSA) is an internationally renowned archive and research institute, entrusted with preserving our common cultural memory, particularly of the 18th and 19th century.
The Department of Media Processing and Usage is responsible for preserving, studying, expanding and presenting the archive’s handwritten holdings and collections. It also provides services to the users of the archive.
Since the 143-volume “Sophie Edition”, or Weimar Edition, of Goethe’s works was completed in 1919, the archive has cultivated a reputation as a centre of source-based research and edition philology. Using modern information technologies and virtual working environments, hybrid and genuine digital editions are created, whose standardized research data can be used by researchers in the long term.
