International photo competition
In 2001, Goethe's handwritten legacy received a special honour: UNESCO declared it a World Documentary Heritage, making it one of the most important cultural assets of mankind. To mark the 25th anniversary of this honour in 2026, the Goethe and Schiller Archive, which preserves this unique treasure, is organising an international competition together with the Goethe Societies.
Show us streets and squares in your home town or in one of your favourite cities that bear the name "Goethe" or are associated with him in some other way. Is there perhaps a Goethe memorial or a plaque on a building that commemorates him?
Take a photo of this place - preferably with yourself in the picture (e.g. as a selfie) - and write a short personal statement in German, English, Spanish or French about what Goethe means to you. Please also include your first name, the place and country where the photo was taken and, if you like, your age and profession. To take part, you must be at least 16 years old.
The three most original entries will be honoured with special Goethe fan packages.
A selection of the entries submitted will be shown in 2026 in an exhibition at the Goethe and Schiller Archive dedicated to Goethe's handwritten legacy. The entries will also be presented on the Klassik Stiftung Weimar 's social media channels and in analogue media. The competition ends on 15.12.2025.
We look forward to your submission!
„Where is your Goethe?“
By taking part in the photo competition, each participant agrees to the conditions of participation. Anyone over the age of 16 can take part. Employees of the Klassik Stiftung and all persons involved in the conception and realisation of the competition are excluded from participation. Only one submitted registration per participant will be entered into the competition. It is strictly forbidden to use multiple email addresses to increase the chances of winning.
For the publication of photos of individual, individually recognisable persons, their consent is required in accordance with Section 22 of the German Copyright Act. If the submitted photo requires this, the participant declares by uploading it that he/she has given the necessary consent or that any other persons depicted have given their consent.
The processing of the participant's personal data is based on Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. It is carried out for the purpose of press and public relations work.
The photos can be retrieved and stored worldwide through use on the Internet. Corresponding data can therefore also be found via so-called "search engines". It cannot be ruled out that other people or companies may change these photos, use them for other purposes or link them to other data available on the Internet and create a personality profile. Moreover, the data can often still be retrieved via the archive function of search engines even if it has already been removed or changed from the above-mentioned websites.
This consent is voluntary. No disadvantages arise from the non-granting or revocation of consent. Consent can also be revoked at any time in text form (e.g. letter, e-mail to widerspruch@klassik-stiftung.de) with effect for the future. In the event of revocation, the corresponding data will no longer be used for the above-mentioned purposes in the future and will be deleted immediately from the corresponding Internet offers. Nevertheless, a general deletion of the published image material from the Internet cannot be guaranteed, as, for example, search engines may have included the image material in their index or third parties may have copied or modified the image material without authorisation.
The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. This is particularly relevant in cases where a print order has already been placed.
If consent is not withdrawn, it shall remain valid for an unlimited period of time. This declaration of consent will be stored in order to be able to allocate a possible revocation at any time.
