Vorstand der Gesellschaft Anna Amalia Bibliothek e.V. (v.l.n.r.): Petra Seelig (Schatzmeisterin, stellv. Vorsitzende), Dr. Peter Neumann, Dr. Annette Seemann (Vorsitzende), Maria Socolowsky, Katharina Hofmann

The Gesellschaft Anna Amalia Bibliothek e.V. (GAAB) was founded as a non-profit organisation in May 2003 to provide both financial and ideational support to the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek. By the end of 2022, the Circle of Friends had over 370 members. In the first years after the fire in September 2004, the association focused its efforts on collecting donations for rebuilding the library and restoring the badly damaged holdings. In 2006 the association began holding seminars for secondary-school students from Weimar at the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek and then organising exchange projects with Wolfenbüttel. In 2019 GAAB agreed to sponsor the Young European Summer School for adolescents from Germany, France and Poland.

GAAB also supports lecture series, exhibitions, publications and other activities of the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek. It publishes the journal “SupraLibros” and promotes cooperation with other library support associations.
