Prize winners 2019

Rudiger Franke »Overlay in the grid«, 2013, woodcut, 95 × 95 cm (paper: 100 × 100 cm), edition: 3

This year's winner of the Ulla and Eberhard Jung Foundation, Rüdiger Franke, comes from Gotha in Thuringia and studied fine arts (focus on graphics) at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art in Halle from 2010 to 2017. Stylistically, he is close to the currents of concrete art and minimal art. His graphic and graphic works arise in the field of tension between objectifying abstraction on the one hand and high individual differentiation on the other. This also applies to the woodcut “Overlay in the Grid”, which was awarded by the jury and in which Franke interpreted a classic graphic medium in a contemporary way.
