Fotothek

The Fotothek archives images from the collections of the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek, the Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv and the museums of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. It currently encompasses approximately 200,000 documents.

Use

The Fotothek handles enquiries regarding photo orders and publication authorisation. The study centre in the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek provides workplaces for research among the originals. On this page, the Fotothek also offers the opportunity to place orders directly from the computer. Here you will find the PDF forms “Photo order form” and “Application for Authorisation of Publication”.

We can only accept applications for publication by post or fax, as they must be signed. Photo orders can also be sent digitally. Please also take note of our terms and conditions and fee scale.

Please contact the Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv to order copies of archived items.

Collection themes

  • personalities who played important roles in the literary and cultural history of Germany between 1750 and 1850 (Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Friedrich Schiller, Johann Gottfried Herder, Christoph Martin Wieland etc.) and predecessors and contemporaries of the classicists in other countries.
  • images related to Friedrich Nietzsche and Franz Liszt
  • reproductions of manuscripts stored in the Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv
  • items from former grand ducal art collections
  • treasures from the collection in the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek
    (reproductions of manuscripts, incunabula, prints, historic maps etc.)
  • history of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the institutions that preceded it
    (exhibitions, work carried out in the fields of science and cultural politics)
