Cultural education for rural areas
How can cultural education integrate the life experience of Thuringia’s rural inhabitants?
The Cultural Lab Thuringia addresses this question in a model project with partner schools in four regions of Thuringia. The project aims to promote networking between school-based and extra-curricular cultural educators in rural areas and strengthen their qualifications. By encouraging such cultural collaboration, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar hopes to generate new impulses and ideas for its educational activities.
The methods and content from the model projects will be incorporated into a comprehensive qualification programme for educators and schoolteachers. Networking meetings will serve to intensify and promote exchange between Thuringia’s cultural educators. Everyone who is interested in cultural education is cordially invited to participate in our Cultural Lab events!
The Cultural Lab Thuringia will carry out four model pilot projects until the end of 2022 in cooperation with partner schools in north, south, west and east Thuringia. The programme aims to identify quality criteria for cultural education projects at rural schools, based on which it can develop cultural initiatives in line with the Klassik Stiftung’s outreach strategy in the long term.
Developing and testing digital programmes and working with digital media are the primary focuses of the programme. The starting point for the projects will be collection topics at the Klassik Stiftung Weimar which have potential relevance to the lives and experiences of the participating pupils. The collaboration with regional partners is especially important for strengthening cultural education activities at and around the partner schools. The pilot projects will be evaluated throughout, and the results will be published in a report.
“Cultural Lab Thuringia” is a joint project by the Thuringian State Chancellery, the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, and is sponsored by Stiftung Mercator as part of the supporting programme “Kreativpotentiale” (Creative Potentials).
