Internships for Bachelor and Master students of conservation and restoration of written material, books and graphics
The Academic Training Workshop is part of the collections department of the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek. Its task is to preserve the library's holdings for use and archiving. After the library fire in 2004, volume procedures were developed and standardised for printed materials and manuscripts that were severely damaged by heat and water. By 2023, these procedures had already been applied to over 1.1 million sheets.
The reproducible restoration methods offer considerable development potential for other serious damage to written material. For this reason, in 2019 an interdisciplinary cooperation agreement was concluded with the Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaft und Kunst Hildesheim, Studiengänge Konservierung - Restaurierung, and the Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, Institut für Chemie nachwachsender Rohstoffe. In addition to research and development, this also enables continuous teaching for Bachelor's and Master's students. Offers are for one- and two-week internships, with course preparation beforehand.
