Bookbinder

Professional training

The trainee completes a dual bookbinding apprenticeship in our workshops. Vocational school lessons take place at the Gutenbergschule Leipzig. In the library, our in-house training structure alternates between small series production of bindings and protective moulds and individual production. This is supplemented by internal internships in the conservation and restoration of library materials (specialising in volume handling) and exhibition technology. In addition, we facilitate participation in inter-company training courses and competitions. From the second year of training, the focus is placed on elective qualifications, which are "Repairing books and objects" and "Making containers" (see also the 2011 Training Regulations for Bookbinders, published by the Zentral-Fachausschuss Berufsbildung Druck und Medien).

The training programme is a good preparation for subsequent studies in conservation/restoration or design.
