The Study Centre is not only a place for reading and research, but also a place for exchange. The Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek presents its collections in various event formats and engages in dialogue with experts and the interested public in lectures and colloquia.

Event formats

Constellations. New perspectives on the library

The series is dedicated to the topics and problems of an archive and research library. It focuses on central questions of archiving, cataloguing, researching and communicating collections and thus constantly opens up new constellations and perspectives.

Translate! The ‚Schreiber-Sofa‘ in the Book Cube

The series of talks is dedicated to the literary and cultural challenge of translation in changing dialogue constellations. On the red 'Schreiber-Sofa', a wide variety of actors meet to discuss perspectives from East and West, literature, language and other arts.

Colloquia

As part of our colloquia, we engage in dialogue with academics from various disciplines on topics relevant to libraries.

From 8 to 10 October 2025, the Research Centre for European Classicism, in collaboration with the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek, will host the interdisciplinary conference “Knowledge of War: Constellations of Weimar Classicism around 1800”. The conference will focus on Weimar´s military library as a unique space of knowledge that played a special role around 1800, especially in the context of the Napoleonic Wars.

Authors as guests in the library: together with renowned publishers, we organise readings from newly published books on topics of relevance - for Weimar, the library and the current literary landscape.

Musical events

The Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek not only keep an extensive musical collection , its rooms are also regularly used as a stage for a wide variety of musical performances. 
Here we offer you an insight into previous music events: besides concerts in the series “After the Fire. Music from Weimar's Ashes” also chamber and charity concerts, solo performances and concert films.

Cranach´s Torrent of Images

An exhibition on “Cranach's Torrent of Images” has been on display in the Renaissance Hall of the Historic Building since June 2022. It focuses not only on the paintings, but also on the library's outstanding holdings on the Reformation and early modern period.
