At the Erlebnisportal Weimar

Designed by the Berlin-based architect Helga Blocksdorf, the environmentally friendly, prominently visible structure is constructed with solid plywood panels which extend high above the Coudray Wall at the Platz der Demokratie. For the next five years, the Erlebnisportal Weimar will establish a spatial, formal and thematic connection between the garden monument of the Park on the Ilm and the historic buildings of Weimar Classicism. An integrated viewing platform will enable visitors to enjoy a glorious view of the park, the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek and the City Castle.

More about the construction project

In the airy interior, ceiling-high video walls with seven short films draw attention to selected tourist destinations in Thuringia. Visually impressive, they introduce the places and stories that the "Erlebnis Portal" bundles in seven thematic tours. The spectrum ranges from places of cultural and socio-historical significance to literature and residential culture.

The multimedia information presentation was designed by the Dresden-based firm Whitebox, which was also responsible for the concept and implementation. The designers placed particular emphasis on meeting the standards of barrier-free access in the sense of “design for all”.
