Research training

We offer training courses on research methods for school classes and student groups, combined with a tour of the study centre.

Structure and programme

In the first 45 minutes of the course:

  1. General introduction to the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek (collections, use, opening hours, etc.)
  2. Introduction to research strategies and tools (online catalogue, bibliographies and databases where applicable)
  3. Further information, e.g. on helpful websites or online tutorials

This is followed by a 45-minute guided tour of the Study Centre, during which we show the relevant reference works and explain the arrangement of the books is based on their subject matter.

Our special offer: Pupils and students can come to us with their own topics, e.g. from their seminar subject. We adapt the search strategies and research tools to the content and help with the search for relevant literature.

Standard courses

You don't have your own topics? Then you can choose between our two standard training courses:

Weimar Classics

In this course, we introduce participants to researching in the online catalogue using examples from the subject area of Weimar Classicism and introduce relevant bibliographies and databases.

Shakespeare

In this course, we explore topics relating to Shakespeare and his works with the participants. We provide an introduction to researching in the online catalogue and introduce relevant bibliographies and databases.

We have prepared research questions on both topics so that participants can actively apply their knowledge after the course. You should allow extra time for this.
