Graduate programme offered by the Friedrich Schiller University Jena with a focus on the era between 1750 and 1850 with an integrated research internship at the Klassik Stiftung Weimar
The Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena jointly offer the master’s degree programme “German Classicism in the European Context”. This graduate programme is primarily targeted at humanities students who are strongly interested in the core period of German literary and philosophical history. With its interdisciplinary and research-oriented focus, it provides students with in-depth knowledge of the constitutive phase of German literature and philosophy around 1800 and the ability to engage in research, presentation and discussion in this field of study. The programme establishes a connection between the Age of Enlightenment, Classicism and Romanticism in Germany and the European context, and highlights their historical and current significance to literary reception.
The master’s programme includes an integrated praxis module which allows students to complete a research internship in one of the departments of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. In addition to enjoying proximity to this genius loci, students gain insight into the professional operations of one of Germany’s largest cultural foundations.
