Projects of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Thuringia, represented by the State Chancellery of Thuringia, Department of Culture and the Arts.
The fellowship programme of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar promotes outstanding academic, journalistic and artistic projects.
The Klassik Stiftung Weimar offers three funding lines to support outstanding academic, journalistic and artistic projects. The residency fellowships provide talented individuals the opportunity to conduct research for several months in the cultural city of Weimar. The recipients are invited to attend all academic and cultural events offered by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. An academic research colloquium is held on a regular basis to encourage and facilitate cross-disciplinary exchange.
Applications will only be accepted via the online application portal, which will be activated in May.
For further details, please read the call for applications for your corresponding funding line.
Please submit your application and all required documents by 31 July via our online portal. Fellowship applications are reviewed and selected in September of each year. All approved fellowships commence the following year.
Fellows can receive free accommodation during their stay in Weimar in one of the guest rooms of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. Due to construction work in 2026, the guest apartments in the historic Nietzsche Archive will unfortunately not be available. Depending on capacity, it may be possible to stay in an apartment in the Pogwischhaus. However, this will not be possible for all Fellows. In this case, we kindly ask you to organize your own accommodation in Weimar, for which an additional accommodation allowance of 500 euros per month will be paid.
The following benefits and services are also provided through the fellowship programme:
In accordance with German tax regulations, fellowship funding is not subject to income tax or social insurance contributions. As a rule, travel expense allowances cannot be granted.
Foreign fellows and recipients who live abroad are required to hold health insurance that covers the cost of possible medical treatment in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Fellows are required to conduct their studies in the museums and archives of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
Fellows are given the opportunity to present their projects at the research colloquium, regularly organised by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. We expect all fellows to participate in these colloquia.
Fellows are obliged to appropriately mention the funding provided by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar in all publications produced in connection to their stay in Weimar. The acknowledgment should be expressed as follows: “This study [or project, publication etc.] was financed through a fellowship of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.” Fellows are required to provide the Klassik Stiftung one copy of every publication produced in connection to their research visit in Weimar.
We welcome your suggestions on how to further improve the fellowship programme.
The fellowship can be revoked at any time should the Klassik Stiftung Weimar discover that information in the application was incorrect, or the fellow failed to fulfil his/her agreed-upon obligations. Should personal or financial circumstances change, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar reserves the right to make adjustments to the fellowship on short notice.
