Projects of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar are funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Free State of Thuringia, represented by the State Chancellery of Thuringia, Department of Culture and the Arts.

Graphic Art Collections annex
In addition to providing storage capacity for artistic assets, the new annex will contain paper conservation workshops, administrative offices and space for preparing exhibitions. Its construction will ensure the viability of the facility as a future collection and conservation centre at the Klassik Stiftung Weimar for years to come.
Following a European-wide bidding process with an extemporised design[RB1] , the Berlin-based architectural firm Studio Qwertz has been commissioned to plan and oversee construction of the building. The design features a four-storey building with 2,500 m2 of usable floor space which is connected to the existing building on the first floor.
The planning phase commenced in 2022, and the groundbreaking ceremony took place in 2024.
Not only was a high degree of functionality important to the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, but also architectural and operational sustainability. The Foundation chose a proposal characterised by a compact form with a structural design that employs long-lasting and sustainable building materials and technical systems reduced to a minimum.
A passive geothermal system will provide cooled and heated air conditioning, which adjusts the temperatures on each level using component activation. Electricity will be mainly powered by a photovoltaic system installed on a green roof.
This concept will enable the Foundation to build a lasting, sustainable facility, while creating permanent storage space for the art treasures of the renowned Graphic Art Collections.
