Romantic Weimar

Weimar is one of the most important places in the history of German literature. However, the city on the Ilm is also extremely relevant from an art historical perspective. Caspar David Friedrich's paintings and drawings are evidence of the central role Weimar played as a city of culture in the period around 1800. The Weimar context makes it clear how important Goethe's poetry was for Friedrich's art. For the first time in its history, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar is asking itself how the world cultural heritage of classical Weimar relates to Romanticism.
