Preserving, opening up, telling stories - collections in transition

On the history and genesis of old and new stocks

One of the main tasks of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar is to preserve, develop and communicate art and world heritage. However, the cataloging of collections is not just about examining existing objects. The collection is also constantly growing through the creation of digital copies of old books and objects, the acquisition of new exhibits and the production of video material. Discover the diverse areas of the collection and explore old and new holdings.

Future Memory

How memories become collections

Der verbrannte Dachstuhl der Bibliothek im Morgenlicht, im Hintergrund der Schlossturm

September 2, 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the fire at the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek. The fire was followed by an overwhelming willingness to help: a chain of people formed on the night of the fire to rescue books and works of art from the burning building. Donations large and small made it possible to rebuild the building and have ensured the restoration of the damaged books to this day. To mark the anniversary, we are focusing on the very personal memories of contemporary witnesses in the form of videos, audio recordings and texts. At the same time, the reports represent the start of a new media collection landscape.

Contemporary witnesses wanted!

We cordially invite you to share your personal memories with us and thus expand our collections.
