How Weimar lives

Exhibition in Weimar city space

The photo series "Wie Weimar wohnt" (How Weimar lives) is an art project about people and living in Weimar. Eleven photographs by Ina Schoenenburg show Weimar residents in their homes - in the artist's villa, the prefab apartment or the housing truck. The portrayed people talk about living as much as the rooms they spend time in or the objects they find there: An open book on the sofa, concentration while playing chess, the intimacy between mother and child, the window into the distance. The photo series makes familiar things about living visible and offers a multi-layered view of contemporary ways of living in Weimar.

The photo series "How Weimar Lives" won the "ARD Kultur Creators" competition 2022 and is a joint project of Axel Völcker, ARD Kultur and the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. The photographs were exhibited on large-format posters in Weimar's urban space and presented in the third issue of the magazine "klassisch modern". A documentary film by MDR tells the story of the implementation of the photo project and will be shown in the media library of ARD Kultur starting in spring.
