Exciting stories await you in our museums, castles and poet residences. You can find some ideas for excursions here!
Selected museums offer regular HANDS ON!-tours which are open to the public. That means you can simply show up at the specified time and participate in a guided tour. During the tour, you will be introduced to many fascinating stories and personalities.
Goethe National Museum (Goethe Residence and exhibition)
On a tour of the Goethe Residence, Goethe’s son August shares fascinating anecdotes about his famous father and his life on Frauenplan. The exhibition “Flood of Life – Storm of Deeds” presents the poet’s literary achievements.
Schiller’s daughter Caroline shows visitors around her home. She describes what they used to cook and eat, and where she and her siblings played. She also reveals how young Schiller became a famous writer. The children’s audio guide is also available online (in German only).
Bauhaus-Museum and Museum Neues Weimar
Join us on a tour of the new Bauhaus Museum and the Museum Neues Weimar where you can discover what was considered “modern” long ago and what you might still recognise today.
The great thing about the media guide is that you can download it as an app on to your (parents’) smartphone before your visit. Not only does it include tours of the museums, but also fascinating stories waiting to be discovered.
Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek (Historic Library)
Amelie accompanies you on a tour of the Historical Library of the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek (HAAB) with its famous Rococo Hall.
Have fun exploring the Park on the Ilm with the Weimar+ app game “Save the Park!”. The game presents riddles at various locations in the park which you have to solve. Short audio clips provide background and historic facts about these locations. And all the while, you must constantly combat demons trying to rob the plants of their energy!
The game in the Weimar+ app (in the “Park on the Ilm” section) is suitable for children 10 years and older. To play the game, children need a smartphone or tablet.
