Books at the Rococo Hall of the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek

Collections

The Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek is an archive and research library containing collections dating back to the 9th century.

In addition to historical prints from the Reformation, works of Weimar Classicism and the modernist era in Weimar around 1900, the core of the collection consists of incunabula, medieval manuscripts, musical works, family registers, maps, globes and a military library.

The collection contains the personal libraries which belonged to members of the ducal house, Goethe, von Arnim, Liszt and Nietzsche.

Visitors and researchers can also gain access to special theme-based collections, e.g. on Faust, the libraries of the German Shakespeare and Dante Society, and Buchenwald.
