Living with van de Velde

A new living hall for the use of visitors

permanent exhibition

Replicas of original pieces of furniture in the living hall provide an opportunity to relax and experience the mastery of the Jugendstil artist Henry van de Velde.

The Klassik Stiftung Weimar has newly refurbished the central living hall of the Haus Hohe Pappeln, the residence of the Belgian Jugendstil artist Henry van de Velde which he built for his family in 1908. Because the original furniture is no longer in Weimar, a team of craftspeople carefully reconstructed the pieces and created a tactile room plan which presents an exciting new impression of the original “Gesamtkunstwerk”. We invite you to relax in Van de Velde’s armchair or admire the portrait of Maria van de Velde and her children while enjoying this new perspective of the harmonious room ensemble from the sofa. Feel free to peruse the literature on the Jugendstil movement and feel at home with the Van de Velde family.
