Dora Wibiral and Dorothea Seeligmüller at the Nietzsche-Archiv

These two female artisans cultivated a decades-long relationship with the archive. They followed their own path in life as students of Henry van de Velde and instructors at the Weimar School of Arts and Crafts and the Bauhaus. Their interest in Nietzsche writings influenced their work and lifestyle. Wibiral and Seeligmüller lived together in a same-sex partnership and jointly managed a workshop of their own. This exhibition presents the newly acquired metal and enamel works, ceramics and designs by these female artists, whom a neighbour once teasingly referred to as “my little Übermenschen”.
