The Munich collector and art patron Dr Wilhelm Winterstein has been a strong supporter of the systematic expansion of the Graphic Art Collections since 1997. Thanks to his patronage, the library has enhanced its profile and added numerous highlights to its collection. In the German section, these include master drawings by such renowned artists as J.H.W. Tischbein and Carl Gustav Carus. French graphic artworks of the late 18th and 19th century, however, comprise a prominent focus with important works by Jacques-Louis David, Eugène Delacroix, J.A.D. Ingres, Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Théodore Rousseau and many others. Contemporary additions include the four large-scale coloured silkscreen “Goethe” portraits by Andy Warhol. The 40 works which Wilhelm Winterstein has meanwhile donated to the collection are now presented with 30 other works from the Weimar holdings to underscore the relationship between the collection and its valued donations.
