Directions to Weimar

Due to its very good connection to local and long-distance public transport, as well as its central location in Thuringia, Weimar can be easily reached by public transport but also by car.

In the following map you will find an overview of all museums and institutions that are part of the program of the theme year "Language" 2022. If you are arriving by car, you can use the "Show parking spaces" button on the map to view various parking options.

By car

Autobahn A4 (Frankfurt am Main – Dresden): Exit 49 “Weimar” → 5 km to downtown

Autobahn A9 (Berlin – Munich): At Hermsdorfer Kreuz take ramp to autobahn A4 in the direction of Jena / Erfurt / Frankfurt am Main → ca. 40 km to exit 49 “Weimar”

Autobahn A71 (Schweinfurt – Sömmerda): At Erfurter Kreuz take ramp to autobahn A4 in the direction of Jena / Dresden → ca. 25 km to exit 49 “Weimar”

Highway B7 (Kassel-Erfurt-Gera): Follow signs to Weimar “Stadtzentrum” (city centre)

Highway B85 (Kyffhäuser-Bayreuth): Follow signs to Weimar “Stadtzentrum” (city centre)

By public transport

By train

There is regular train service to Weimar’s main railway station via the long-distance routes Frankfurt-Leipzig, Kassel-Berlin and Stralsund-Düsseldorf. There are also several regional trains which stop in Weimar (Erfurt-Jena, Eisenach-Halle and Göttingen-Zwickau). For more information, visit the website of the Deutsche Bahn.

Bus network in Weimar

The municipal public bus system extends across the city of Weimar. Public busses will bring you comfortably from the main railway station to downtown Weimar and to most of the local museums and historical sites of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. Weimar+ app

The cultural app for your visit in Weimar

Traditional audio guides were yesterday – today you can discover the cultural city of Weimar and its historic sites using our Weimar+ app. In addition to audio tours of our museums of modernism, the app offers tours through the historic parks and gardens of Weimar. An audio walk through downtown Weimar starting in May 2022 will introduce you to the featured language events of the Theme Year 2022.

We recommend downloading the app onto your smartphone before your visit and taking advantage of the free WiFi in our museums.

Backpack "On the road with Barbara Brück"

6 – 12 years | about 1.5-2 hours

Accompanied by Lucas Cranach's granddaughter Barbara Brück, you will embark on a journey of discovery through the city of Weimar and the time of the Reformation. Barbara tells an exciting story about each place and invites you to do riddles and little games.

"Bauhaus Bag"

6 – 12 years | about 2 hours

100 years ago a school opened in Weimar that is now world-famous: the Bauhaus. But what kind of school was it and what made the lessons so unique? Together with Felix Klee and Brigitte Marcks you can go in search of clues and discover exciting stories about the Bauhaus.

Culture and enjoyment belong together. That is why we offer you a gastronomic service in selected institutions and museums.

Café Kunstpause in the Bauhaus Museum Weimar

Following your visit to the Bauhaus Museum or the Museum Neues Weimar, treat yourself to some delicious cake and coffee at the museum café “Kunstpause”. We invite you to relax in the lounge area designed in the Bauhaus style – or on our spacious terrace in nice weather – and enjoy hot and cold beverages and a variety of seasonal cuisine served fresh every day.

Cafeteria at the Study Centre

After you have visited the stunning Rococo Hall or the Weimar Adventure Portal, take a few minutes to relax in the courtyard café at the Study Centre. The Cafeteria is the perfect place to take a short break with a cup of coffee. You will also find a large selection of snacks and beverages to recharge your batteries or clear your head after hours of research in the Study Centre of the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek.
