Historical performance practice in opera, theatre and music at an authentic, historical location
Historical Theatre at Kochberg Castle
This extraordinary private theatre was built around 1800 by Carl von Stein who wanted to have his own Weimar-style “Court of the Muses” at his country estate. This Classical-period theatre with its pillared portico belongs to the European Route of Historic Theatres. The stage and auditorium are festively decorated with hand-marbled wallpaper and floral borders. Every summer from May to the end of September, the Kochberg Castle Liebhabertheater Association presents Baroque, Classical and Romantic operas, plays and concerts at this authentic location with renowned artists and special attention to historical performance practice (for the current programme, see downloads). The “Garden Festival” and the “St. Nicolas Market” are two highlights in the diverse event programme at Kochberg Castle.
