Bronzene Goethe-Büste

Goethe in Exile

Busts and books from the estate of the Jewish art collectors Paul and Olga Hirsch

presentation

Thanks to generous financing provided by the Association of Friends of the Goethe National Museum, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar was able to purchase a bronze Goethe bust from a private English collector. The foundation also purchased several Goethe books from the same owner.
These new acquisitions were originally owned by the Jewish art collectors Paul and Olga Hirsch from Frankfurt am Main, both of whom were forced to emigrate to Cambridge in 1936.
Their history and the journey these books and the bust took to Weimar is the focus of the studio presentation, now on display in a special room of the permanent exhibition “Flood of Life – Storm of Deeds” at the Goethe National Museum.
