What would autumn be without pumpkins and squash? The native American varieties of the “cucurbita” species have long become an established fixture of the season.
At the beginning of autumn, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar traditionally presents an exhibition of edible squash in the gardener’s cottage at the Belvedere Orangery. The exhibition provides visitors with an impression of the wide range of colours and forms of squash varieties. As early as 1820, the collection of exotic plants at Belvedere Castle included five different varieties of this genus.
The exhibited plants have been grown and cultivated by prospective ornamental horticulturists. The Klassik Stiftung Weimar has been educating professional trainees for years. There are six trainee positions in the ornamental horticulture department at Belvedere Castle.
