Around 1800, home interiors were all the rage.
Illustrative depictions of one’s living environment reflected a person’s self-image, portrayed their social class and affluence, and expressed self-confidence. It was possible to entirely capture the ideal of middle-class life in the depiction of one’s living environment.
Featuring works from the Graphic Art Collections, the presentation explores how our ideals of living are still influenced by the narrative that evolved during the 19th century.
