In-depth study of the Insel Verlag Leipzig archive
The archive of the Insel Verlag Leipzig contains the old registries of the publishing house from 1899 to 1950, as well as administrative documents and correspondence with the authors. The aim of the DFG-funded project is to gain an in-depth view of the holdings in close coordination with the DLA Marbach where researchers are currently cataloguing an additional sub-collection of the Insel Verlag archive.
A focus of these cataloguing efforts is to investigate and review the numerous individuals with whom the publishing house corresponded, enter these into the standard database and provide public access to these data sets via the linked data service of the German National Library (GND).
The theatre holdings consist of texts, director’s notebooks and prompt books from the Weimar Nationaltheater from 1780 to 1951. With state financing provided by the Thuringian government, the project aims to improve the usability of the archived items. Following an assessment of various damages, researchers carried out an analysis of the paper condition using the Surve-NIR measurement system and other conservational-restoration methods to evaluate the condition of the items. The storage of the theatre books was reorganised, damaged items were repaired, and selected items were placed in custom-made protective cartons.
