The private Nietzsche

An (im)possible exhibition

Exhibition opening in the Museum Neues Weimar

For the first time, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar is showing the private furnishings of the Nietzsche siblings, from Friedrich's living room to Elisabeth's Paraguay souvenirs. The desolate condition of the furniture and household objects reflects their eventful history: once revered as devotional objects in the Nietzsche Archive, they were put into storage during GDR times and were nearly forgotten. On the occasion of the theme year "Living", "Nietzsche Private - An Impossible Exhibition" presents the unrestored objects in transport crates and asks questions about how museums deal with memorabilia of historical personalities.
